An easy upgrade at night, took a little while longer than expected.
After running the CU2 installation, it came to the conclusion that it could not remove some CU1 file. I misread, and thought it meant I had to uninstall CU1 first….but CU1 was my first 2013 install, I had not upgraded from RTM to CU1.
A quick google search found the simple answer: http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/davestork/archive/2013/09/25/failed-exchange-server-2013-cu2-install-due-to-security-update-2874216.aspx
Had to uninstall the security patch from windows update. But that is not THAT easy. First you have to start all exchange services over again. The updatepackage disables all exchange services, and without them, you cannot uninstall the security patch. Happy enabling and starting the bunch. 🙂
Thanks for the info. It is curious how they could develop an error message but not the tool to just fix the problem… perhaps at the verification stage?
